Sri Guruvayurappan Temple,Texas- Houston
Sree Guruvayurappan Temple of Texas Houston, the first ever Guruvayurappan Temple in an American continent was built in 2010. The temple is owned and operated by the Kerala Hindu Society. Sri Kanippayyur Krishnan Namboodiripad was invited to Texas by the Kerala Hindu Society to design a Guruvayurappan Temple for them .The 5 acre land was found good and selected for construction. Daily pooja’s were commenced in a make shift temple hall soon after performing a Balalaya Prathishta, which was executed in 2010 December.The design of the Temple complex was done completely following Agama Sastra principles. Abode of the deity, Sree Guruvayurappan is an East facing two tiered, square (Dwi Thala Prasada) structure with a porch in front. Prathishtas of Lord Ayyappa, Ganapathi and Devi are located in the surrounding protective structure (Chuttambalam) built with iron pillars and roof and laid with roof tiles on top.Abundant Architectural motifs of Kerala Temple Architecture are used all over the structure. Skilled artisans were deployed from Kerala to do the carvings and idols.The construction was successfully completed in 2015 thanks to the firm support of Society’s President Mr. Rajagopala Pillai along with the other members of the society. Regular follow ups and monitoring of the works by Sri Vallulissery Shanmughan are worth to mentioning.After completing the construction, with the grace of Sree Guruvayurappan, the consecration ceremony(Prathishta) was held in 2016 April 15-28.The rituals were performed by the renowned Chief Priest (Thantri) Brahma Sri Kariyannur Divakaran Namboodiri along with the help of
Brahma Sri Mannarassala Subrahmanyan Namboodiri, Brahma Elangallur Namboodiri and Brahma Sri Maruthoorkara Namboodiri.
