One need not be as slave to astrology but timely warning and advises will be of immense help. Finer aspects cannot be ascertained from the horoscope alone. A detailed study of planetary positions on a given day correlated with the Kooru of the persons concerned will provide the required information.

The division followed by westerners Aries ,Taurus etc are not exactly corresponding to the Kooru of Kerala system since the former is arrived at by taking into account the date of birth whereas the latter is arrived at by looking at the star at the time of birth, the Birth star. The Indian system emphasizes the importance of the birth star and also correlates the positions of the moon, stars and the most important factors the sun including its planets. If western and Indian systems are compared, dispassionately, it will be proved beyond doubt that the Kerala system is much superior.

A person who is not conversant with the birth star can have his or her’s Horoscope cast if the astrologers is informed about the date of birth also the latitude and longitude of the place where the birth has take place. The astrologer can identify the birth star with a good amount of accuracy, and then cast the horoscope.

Take the case of a person with Aswini as the birth star. Texts on astrology describes his characteristics as -intelligent, clever, honest, well behaved, fond of jewellery, having happy married life with children, qualified to be the head of the family (suggestive of having his own house). Aswini being part of asterim aswini-bharani and quarter phase of krithikam, a person born within this asterim will have an urge to be constantly on travel , will have round beautiful eyes easily pleased disposition, romantic inclinations bordering on sexual promiscuity, week knees (physical handicap)fluctuating financial status, and a yes for leafy vegetables.

Charting the course of life on a daily basis for all those with particular birth stars taking in to account extraneous influences is beyond any astrologer. Influences of planets can produce good and bad effects. For malefic influences there are remedial measures as well: mostly Hindu religious rites, which may not be appreciated by non – Hindus. but there are two specific remedial rites which can be whole heartedly accepted by one and all irrespective of religious faith , and they are ;1.wearing specific jewels/precious stones,2.wearing clothes of particular colors.

Indian system does not recognize birth stones since the emphasis are on phases of planets known as DASA in Indian parlance. Though twenty two jewels are mentioned in Brihat-samhita considered as gospel by Indian astrologers nine of them are recommended as important. They are Ruby, Emarald, Pearl, Topaz, Moonstone, Coral, and Diamond and cats eye.

The precious stones are worn through a ring on the finger leaving the bottom of the studded portion open so that the sun’s rays refracted by the stone will fall on the body of the person wearing ring and this is very significance of wearing stones. The astrologer who checks the horoscope for the current phase (DASA) and other planetary configurations will recommend the particular type of stone as well as the period for which it will have to be worn.

Example: For sun’s malefic influences, Ruby, Moon’s pearl, Mar’s coral and so on. Other religious rites are also mentioned among which the most important is offering prayers to Almighty and this should be acceptable to all.
